Abundant Life

Abundant Life

We live in a world where we have never had more, and yet we have never felt emptier. Perhaps the abundance we have been chasing is not the abundance that we truly need to thrive in our lives.

Jesus can interrupt your life

We have all been caught in the cycle of advertising with its false promises. That if we buy this product we will finally, ultimately be happy. That if we looked just a little bit better then we would finally be loved. That if we do not accept what we are being sold then we will be left out and forgotten.

All of this misunderstands authentic abundance. In our text this week Jesus corrects a misunderstanding, by those around him, of what he was here to do. In his correction he offers us, as his followers, a new kind of abundance . . .

7 So again Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and bandits; but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. 11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. - John 10: 7-11
